FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Questions loom over a Central Valley ICE raid rumor on Monday. The Fresno city councilman who issued that warning is refusing to name his source. Councilman Miguel Arias announced during Thursday’s meeting that the immigrant community should stay away from the Cherry Avenue Auction on Saturday. “We have learned that this weekend ICE is planning to engage in a massive immigration raid at the Cherry Auction,” Arias said Thursday.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Four local fire stations will now be fully staffed all year. The Fresno County Board of Supervisors approved the funding to staff Yokuts Valley, Piedra, Blasingame, and Shaver Lake on Tuesday. It’s part of the Amador Plan, a decades-old agreement allowing local government agencies to work with Cal Fire to make sure fire stations are fully staffed all year. Officials say it is especially important as the term “fire season” becomes a thing of the past.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Local fire and police departments went head-to-head at Champ Camp in Wonder Valley Wednesday. The annual chili cook-off celebrates all the organizations that donate to keep the camp free. “This environment brings them to where they get to be around another 100-plus kids that have experienced what they’ve experienced,” Camp Director Chris Bridger said. Every year, the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation hosts the camp for severe burn survivors.

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Hundreds gathered in Downtown Fresno to protest ICE raids on Monday. They say they stand in solidarity with the protesters in Los Angeles. One protester shouted, “You’d be burning up stuff too. You’d be turning those cars over, too. You’d be spray painting those walls, too.”This comes after months of frustrations regarding surprise deportations and revoked visas in the Central Valley.

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno woman is celebrating her well-earned retirement this weekend. 83-year-old Diane Kanzaki-Reeves was a registered nurse for 62 years. She says she developed the strength her job would require at an early age. “I think the resilience, it’s actually survival,” Kanzaki-Reeves said. She was only a couple of months old when her family was sent to a Japanese internment camp in 1941. She still hangs onto family artifacts from that time.
