LBCCs’ forward Hector Tellez with an assist from defender Nikolas Huebel scored the game-winning goal to advance the men’s soccer team to the fourth round of the southern California regional playoffs on Tuesday after an intense game against Fullerton College which went into double overtime. This third round was a very chippy game whereas multiple yellow cards were thrown. Forward Jose Mariscal played aggressively and made it so that Fullerton wasn’t getting a chance to score.

No. 1 ranked LBCC women’s water polo team defeated the No. 4 ranked Merced Blue Devils 13-3 Thursday morning in the first round of the 3C2A state championships. Sophomore Olivia Slavens led the team with 5 goals, 4 steals, and 1 assist while Lola Annear contributed 4 goals of her own, 1 steal, and 1 crucial block to keep the Blue Devils from scoring.

The Vikings put up a tough fight against Compton College, ending with a 2-0 victory in a very close game. After a back and forth battle between the two teams, Vikings’ midfielder Hector Tellez was able to score a goal with two minutes left in the first period, and their second goal was accomplished the same way by forward Jose Mariscal in the second period. Goalkeeper Abraham Ramirez was proud of himself and his team for taking the win, but still believes that they could’ve played a better game.

LBCC men’s water polo triumphed over Cerritos with a final score of 17-8 on Oct. 23rd. The first period kicked off with Cerritos taking an early lead as attacker Tim Robles found the back of the net at seven minutes. However, Long Beach quickly responded, with attackers Cooper Haddad and Aidan Sepulveda scoring to tie the game. Head Coach Djoko Radunovic emphasized the need for his players to display greater maturity during gameplay.

Middle Blocker Hadassah Odeyale scored the game-winning point as the Vikings shut out L.A. City 3-0 on Friday. “I love my team, I love this program. Just doing something to help them is really great,” Odeyale said. In the game, Odeyale had 7 points, 7 kills, and 1 attack error as she played all three sets for the Vikings. “Our strategy was to focus on ourselves, try to limit our errors, and just prepare for state and postseason,” Odeyale said.

LBCC’s winning streak was broken in an away game against Cerritos with a final score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The first round set the precedent of a tough game as Cerritos’s strong start kept LBCC’s team on their toes. 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20 were the final scores for each round with a play that was neck-to-neck. Playing against a team of equal skill, LBCC and Cerritos frequently called time-outs throughout the match to regroup and strategize.

LBCC’s women’s volleyball team remained undefeated at 14-0 after a dominant sweep of El Camino College on Oct. 9th. Sophomore middle blocker Jubilee Allen had an impressive defensive showing with ten blocks and five kills to block El Camino from establishing a lead. Tainea Allen and Tyreana Allen both showed out offensively with 10 monstrous kills and 3 digs from Tainea and 13 assists and 6 digs from Tyreana. Sophomore Kaylani Moncada recorded a team-high 13 digs and 4 assists. “I think we did great.

The Vikings defeated the Cerritos Falcons in a 38-30 victory clinched during a second overtime on Oct. 5. The winning moment of the game came when Vikings’ wide receiver Troy Crozier caught an 18-yard pass from quarterback Jett Peddy. Sophomore wide receiver Dylan Clark won it all with his catch securing the successful 2-point conversion. “Following this match, it’s crucial for drives to be done and for the momentum to remain strong,” Peddy said.

LBCC women’s water polo team pulled off a dominant 24-3 win over Pasadena on Wednesday to add to their impressive 11-1 overall record this season. Freshman attacker Madalyn Barley began the game with a goal within the first 15 seconds of play and scored two more to help the Vikings establish a 16-2 lead to end the first quarter. Leilani Sanchez, a freshman attacker from Lakewood High School led the game in scoring with six goals.
