    Two LBCC students got the opportunity to conduct independent chemistry and biochemistry research in a nine-week summer program by Cal State LA that aims to provide undergraduates and community college students with early research opportunities. These students were invited by LBCC science professors to speak at a Sip N Science event held recently, where attendees could ask questions about their experience and research while enjoying a meal.

    LBCC held their monthly Sip N Paint event where students and faculty gathered to celebrate Filipino American History Month by painting the Filipino hibiscus flower, gumamela and enjoying traditional Filipino food. Administration assistant for Transfer, Counseling, and Student Support Services Department, Bri Pinkerton was thrilled by the turnout of the event and how each person drew and interpreted the flower differently.

    LBCC’s annual Dia de los Muertos celebration was filled with food, activities, live music and performances on Saturday at LAC’s P Building courtyard. Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that honors deceased loved ones and celebrates the cycle of life. In the courtyard, people were able to make ofrendas, altars, for their friends and family members who have passed, many of which were decorated with flowers, candles, pictures and any memorabilia dedicated to those deceased.

    The Vikings honored their Sophomore players at their home game against Compton College and made them proud by dominating the Tartars with a 5-1 victory on Oct. 29. The Vikings scored their first two goals in the first period by midfielders Sydney Trump and Laura Vasquez, with Compton College scoring one quickly after the second goal.
