Men’s Soccer continue their playoff fight

LBCCs’ forward Hector Tellez with an assist from defender Nikolas Huebel scored the game-winning goal to advance the men’s soccer team to the fourth round of the southern California regional playoffs on Tuesday after an intense game against Fullerton College which went into double overtime. This third round was a very chippy game whereas multiple yellow cards were thrown. Forward Jose Mariscal played aggressively and made it so that Fullerton wasn’t getting a chance to score.

Attacker Madalyn Barley scored 7 goals to lead the Vikings in their 21-3 victory against the visiting Cerritos College team in a conference match on Oct. 23. At the beginning of the first period, LBCC made it clear that they would be the aggressors in this match. LBCC’s attacker Avery White opened the scoring at the six-minute mark, followed closely by attacker Leilani Sanchez at five minutes.

LBCC men’s water polo triumphed over Cerritos with a final score of 17-8 on Oct. 23rd. The first period kicked off with Cerritos taking an early lead as attacker Tim Robles found the back of the net at seven minutes. However, Long Beach quickly responded, with attackers Cooper Haddad and Aidan Sepulveda scoring to tie the game. Head Coach Djoko Radunovic emphasized the need for his players to display greater maturity during gameplay.

San Antonio’s attacker Nicolas Lara struck first at five minutes and thirty-three seconds, assisted by attacker Trevor Davis, putting the away team ahead 1-0. Just a minute later, Mt. Sac’s attacker Nicolas Lara set up teammate utility Nicolas Flores for an impressive goal, extending the lead to 2-0.
Vikings take home crosstown cup in rivalry game against Cerritos

The Vikings defeated the Cerritos Falcons in a 38-30 victory clinched during a second overtime on Oct. 5. The winning moment of the game came when Vikings’ wide receiver Troy Crozier caught an 18-yard pass from quarterback Jett Peddy. Sophomore wide receiver Dylan Clark won it all with his catch securing the successful 2-point conversion. “Following this match, it’s crucial for drives to be done and for the momentum to remain strong,” Peddy said.

After the first period, the Vikings were in the lead with a 10-1 lead. At the beginning of the second period, attacker Taras Myronov scored, assisted by goalie Diogo Checchinato, giving the Vikings a strong start. “We’re focusing on center and counter-attacks,” Michael Trujillo said.

Sanchez wasn’t the only player to put up multiple goals in the game, Center Wendy Garcia also put up a total of 4 goals in the game. “What we had (for strategies) was kind of running a zone, and just going back shot blocking,” utility player Maya Lopez said.

Team USA women’s water polo’s devastating buzzer-beater loss to the Netherlands during the bronze medal game at the Paris Olympics marked the first time in history that Team USA was denied a medal and would be going home empty handed. For LBCC water polo head coach Chris Oeding, the loss was a disappointing contrast to the two Olympic games prior where he helped coach Team USA to gold medals in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020.
