"Definitely one of the fastest-growing counties in the country," the Kinder Institute director of the Houston population research center, Daniel Potter, said. Potter says in Conroe, there were slightly more than 50,000 people living in the community in 2010, and he says it's now over 100,000 people.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person was found dead after a townhome fire in southwest Houston, according to fire officials. The Houston Fire Department responded to the call of a fire at about 10:38 p.m. along Bob White Drive on Saturday. The fire department said when they initially searched the home, they didn't see anyone inside, but found a body under debris during a second search of the building.

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was taken into custody after a man was injured in a shooting in the Baytown area, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the shooting in the 8200 block of Broadleaf Avenue at around 9 p.m. on Saturday. Deputies say a woman is detained after they say she called 911 saying her husband had been shot at the scene. Once first responders arrived, they say the man was flown to the hospital.

POLK COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Polk County sheriff says, like many other jails across southeast Texas, their facility is dealing with staffing shortages, causing them to move inmates to Louisiana. "You look at Harris County. You look at pretty much every one of the counties that touch me are housing inmates either at that facility or other facilities," Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting at a motel along the East Freeway on Saturday. The Houston Police Department said a man in his 20s, who was loitering, was shot and killed at the Red Roof Inn, not far from Centerwood. HPD said witnesses reported that an argument broke out and then gunfire erupted around 1:30 a.m.Police said officers have a man in his 50s or 60s detained for questioning right now, who is claiming self-defense.
