Every college basketball player dreams of playing in the NBA. Andre Iguadola II has seen firsthand what it takes. Now he’ll try to use Baylor as his launching pad to the league. Iguadola II will join Baylor as a late high school signee, announcing the decision on Friday. The 6-foot-7 forward comes to the Bears out of Link Academy in Branson, Missouri. He’s the son of four-time NBA champion Andre Iguadola.

As usual, the upcoming UIL State Girls Golf Tournament will feature plenty of Central Texas spice. Several area teams qualified for state at their respective regional tournaments this week. No classification will include more local flavor than Class 2A, where Crawford, Hamilton and Mart advanced as part of the 12-team state field. It’s the sixth consecutive state trip for Crawford, which will be represented by Averi Bolgiano, Hattie Hayes, Faith Ferrell, Hailey Nelson and Laney Elmore.

There’s no season like postseason for the University High School baseball team. With a run-rule win over Waco High Thursday, the Trojans clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2013. University improved to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in District 16-5A with the win, its fourth straight. The Trojans are in their third season under the direction of head coach Dylan Chapman, a former Super Centex player from University.

Over at Waco High, they’re fond of saying that “Lion Pride Runs Deep.”They had a lot to take pride in on Thursday. Waco High enjoyed a lively signing ceremony in its gymnasium where nine athletes made their college decisions official, as they continue pursuing their athletic dreams. Six players from Waco High’s football program signed to play on Saturdays.

Whenever Baylor recognizes its departing track and field seniors at the Michael Johnson Invitational, the public address announcer takes a few moments to rattle off a list of their titles and accomplishments. He may be at it a while this weekend. Every senior group is special; no head coach would say differently. But this one at Baylor has accumulated enough gold medals to fill an entire bank vault. Just look at the names. Alexis Brown. Chinecherem “Zaza” Prosper Nnamdi. Nathaniel Ezekiel.
