SALT LAKE CITY — Political signs are being stolen and vandalized in a Bountiful neighborhood. Resident Ian McDonald said political signs have been stolen, burned and then returned to yards in his neighborhood. “To me, it’s kind of a fundamental breakdown of neighbors being able to talk to one another about things that matter, ” he said. Police Lieutenant Andrew Smith said there have been several reports of sign thefts in Bountiful.

SALT LAKE CITY — The third district court in West Jordan bore witness to a passionate testimony by Ralph Menzies’ attorney Eric Zuckerman, as he argued why the Attorney General’s office cannot continue prosecuting his death penalty case. “I’m saying that the attorneys that counsel, all of the employees of the Department of Corrections, are working with the prosecution against Mr. Menzies and sharing information that we are not privy to,” Zuckerman told Judge Matthew Bates.

SALT LAKE CITY — Lawmakers are working on legislation that better protects victims of child torture and abuse. The bill enhances penalties and creates longer mandatory prison sentences. The bill being presented designates child torture as a standalone crime, enhancing it to a first-degree felony. Additionally, it would require anyone charged with child torture, to serve a 10-year prison sentence.

OGDEN — A Weber County man is going to prison for 25 years to life after admitting to sexually abusing three children in Roy. The charges also prompted the reopening of a decades-old case in Clinton, where Hooper resident Jack Eric Arnell, 35, was accused of sexually abusing a girl who was between the ages of 3 and 5 at the time.
