    AUSTIN, Texas — Just days after Capital Metro's first police force began patrols, the Austin transit agency has announced the police chief is leaving for a different job near Houston. CapMetro Transit Police Chief Eric Robins will soon serve as the chief of police for Alief ISD, CapMetro announced Wednesday. Robins was hired by CapMetro in 2022 to serve as the agency's chief administrator of transit police, with a mission to create a transit police department following a 2021 resolution.

    Amid escalating costs for housing, the income gap in Austin has widened almost as much as the Texas Panhandle's 20-mile Palo Duro Canyon. U.S. Census Bureau data compiled by the City of Austin for CultureMap shows a widening imbalance between household incomes, as the growth rate for high-earning households especially takes off.     AUSTIN, Texas — Starting Tuesday, commuters who use Capital Metro's rail service may have a harder time getting around downtown. CapMetro announced that it is temporarily suspending service to its Downtown Station due to construction at the Austin Convention Center. The transit agency said the "unexpected impact" has required the immediate temporary closure of the station, located on East Fourth Street, to keep everyone safe.
