AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Senate on Wednesday passed a bill aimed at bringing more film productions to the Lone Star State. Senate Bill 22 would create a long-term film incentive fund. Under the bill, every two years, $500 million would be added to the fund, which would award grants to filmmakers if they meet certain requirements. According to Gov. Greg Abbott's office, for every dollar spent paying for the fund, nearly $5 will come back to the Texas economy.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas state senators on Wednesday took up a bill that could help deal with a common allergy problem here in the Austin area. The Texas Senate initially passed Senate Bill 1927. It stops cities and counties from prohibiting property owners from removing ashe juniper trees, which produce the cedar pollen that makes so many Central Texans sniffle and sneeze. The bill's author, State Sen. Adam Hinojosa (R-Corpus Christi), said the trees can be invasive and pose a fire hazard.

AUSTIN, Texas — A country music superstar will take the stage during this year's Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (COTA). On Tuesday, COTA announced the music headliners for race weekend in October, including country legend Garth Brooks, who will perform on Saturday, Oct. 18. The headliner on Friday, Oct. 17, will be Norwegian DJ Kygo and "red dirt" country band Turnpike Troubadours will headline on Sunday, Oct. 19, after the Grand Prix.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at an Austin apartment complex earlier this week. The Austin Police Department (APD) said on Monday at around 8:43 a.m., officers and Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to a welfare check at the Onyx183 apartments, located at 6800 McNeil Drive. A caller said she hadn't heard from her friend in almost a week. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a woman and a man dead inside.
