I like this grading. Roger was a pleasure to watch and a very underrated professional. He was a regular on television when I was a kid. Great text book boxer.

https://www.ringtv.com/624487-back-from-the-brink-chris-byrds-fight-for-life/ As for steroid abuse, ofc Byrd is not going to admit it. He gained roughly 40 pounds or so in three fights. He says heavy exercise ruined his body but severe nerve damage doesn't happen like that. Long term steroid use is known to damage the nerves.

Certainly a top 10 Lightweight Champion of All Time IMO. He didn't face the best opp. at `35 but he was dominant which is all you can ask of a champion. He also defeated a great albeit smaller champion moving up in Azumah Nelson. Again he dominated him. There was a time that you could count the rounds Whitaker lost on 1 hand. He made a brief stop at `40 and I remember a fight with Harold Brazier {a journeymen}. It was boxing perfection.

McGrain said:↑This is interesting, it's form the Italian Heritage site:Rocky's connection with the Mafia has often troubled biographers. Rocky Marciano knew the mafiosi of course, because the Mob controlled the boxing world. Once he was proposed to sell a match, in 1955, against Englishman Don ****ell, in San Francisco. One of Marciano's close friends, Ed Napoli, recalls he sat with Marciano in a hotel room and listened while a gangster made him an offer.

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by heizenberg, . One of the very best match ups I think could be made. Two badass old school masters of boxing. Toney with his great defense and counter punching against Qawi's relentless yet skillful and strategic attack. Both guys had a tone of tricks up there sleeves and were true fighters. How do you see this one playing out had they met in there primes at light heavyweight or cruiserweight?

I never saw a cataloged list for the Jacobs collection. http://articles.latimes.com/1990-05-19/sports/sp-225_1_harry-grebOne evening in 1986, Jim Jacobs was talking about his collection of boxing films, the most extensive in the world. "Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera in 1894," he said.

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Brixton Bomber, . Oscar by ko. Different levels. At the time they could have fought, De La Hoya wins this. Especially since Oscar was always a true Welterweight who benefitted from early weigh ins, and, would have a substantial size advantage over Randall. When Randall beat Chavez Oscar was still at 135 and only a pro for a little over a year. Randall would have beaten him then.

Balder said:↑Pep came back and beat him, and he was well past his prime. His comeback performance is one of the greatest things he every accomplished. They were rough , fun, foul filled fights. But , Pep took his title back rom Saddler. He fought Saddler again, but separated his shoulder during the fight and had to retire , so Saddler won even though Pep was ahead on the cards. Pep was coming back from a horrific injuries in a plane crash as well. Saddler was a great fighter, but Pep was even better.
