    The Decatur Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to move forward on the process of renaming a street to Steve Perkins Drive. A resident living on Ryan Drive, the street where Steve Perkins lived when a Decatur Police officer killed him in Sept. 2023, started a petition to get the roadway renamed. In order to rename the street, 75% of residents living on it have to sign off on the name change.

    As of 2022, Killen, Alabama, has a population of just over 1,300. For many, it’s just a brief stop on Highway 72, but it’s home to one of the greatest scary attractions in America: Arx Mortis. Its owner, Vinny Grosso, has been in the business of haunts for about 30 years. He started out as an actor for haunted attractions, but about 15 years ago decided to create his own. The 50,000 square feet that make up Arx Mortis once housed a flea market.

The farm’s been in owner Heather Green’s family since the 1950s, but about 10 years ago she decided she wanted to do more with the land.

    Huntsville fire and rescue confirm that a fire at the Von Braun Center this evening is now contained. HFR spokesperson Jerry Tanner says that the fire started inside of a dryer and was contained within the dryer. No injuries are reported. Currently crews are working to ventilate the area to remove smoke. A witness at the nearby Constellation Apartments says, they can smell the smoke from their apartment.
