    The Decatur Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to move forward on the process of renaming a street to Steve Perkins Drive. A resident living on Ryan Drive, the street where Steve Perkins lived when a Decatur Police officer killed him in Sept. 2023, started a petition to get the roadway renamed. In order to rename the street, 75% of residents living on it have to sign off on the name change.

    The Decatur Police Department reminded the public Tuesday it still needs their help locating a missing woman. Police originally reached out for the public's assistance on April 3. Amy Lynn Phillips, 40, was last seen leaving the Clarion Point Motel on 6th Ave NE on April 1. Police say her last known location was in Huntsville, on the same day, after she dropped off a rental vehicle at the airport.

    Authorities in Madison County arrested a woman accused of setting her home on fire on Sunday. It happened at a home in the Henson Hills neighborhood late Sunday night. Deputies responded to the home to find it engulfed in flames. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, a woman who lived at the residence was taken in for questioning by major crimes detectives. Daphne McKinley was later arrested and charged with first-degree arson. No injuries were reported.

    UPDATE: Florence Police canceled the missing and endangered person alert for Daniele Sheaks. FROM EARLIER:Florence Police is asking for the public's help finding a missing woman believed to be living with a condition that may impair her judgement. Brittany Daniele Sheaks, 32, of Florence, was last seen on Dec. 24 in the area of North Pine Street in Florence. Sheaks is 5' 1" with brown hair and blue eyes.

    Authorities identified the victim killed in a shooting that happened Thursday night in Huntsville. Huntsville Police say they responded to a shooting in progress on the 2700 block of Oakdale Terrace around 10 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at the scene, the found a man that had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. On Saturday, Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill confirmed that Jalil Mohammad, 46, was killed in the shooting and that his death had been ruled a homicide.
