David Davin-Power, who died this week at the age of 72, was my friend and colleague for the better part of four decades. We first worked together closely in the early 1990s, when he was reporting on the advances and setbacks in the emerging Northern Ireland peace process in his role as RTÉ’s Northern Editor. David was already a familiar voice to RTÉ audiences from his time as presenter of Morning Ireland, which he had helped to launch with co-presenter David Hanley a decade earlier.

Irish off shore sailor Tom Dolan from co Meath reflects on his historic Figaro race win this week, why he bases himself in France and future sailing plans. https://t.co/UvxtmylvFo

Tom Dolan from co Meath is the first Irish winner of the Figaro single handed yacht race (the Tour de France of sailing) and only the third non-French sailor to win in its 55 year history. An incredible sporting achievement.

Huge congratulations to Irish sailor Tom Dolan who had won the Figaro single handed off shore race, the ‘tour de France’ of sailing. First Irish sailor to secure victory and the first non-French sailor to win in 36 years.
