    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The family of a man shot and killed by Topeka police officers has dropped their lawsuit against the city. Taylor Lowery was killed during a 2022 confrontation in the parking lot of a Kwik Shop in South Topeka. Officers had pursued him there from the site of a domestic call where they first encountered him. The officers were cleared of wrongdoing in 2023 by District Attorney Mike Kagay, who described Lowery ignoring officers’ commands while wielding a knife.

    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka family searching for a man missing two weeks says they’ve tracked his whereabouts a little later the night he went missing. Kaden Zubler’s family says new video obtained Thursday puts the 25-year-old in North Topeka, walking along Topeka Blvd. north of NW Morse St. That was on May 15 around 8:10 p.m., about an hour later than his previous last known location near 17th and Topeka Blvd. The family has also raised the reward for his return to $5,000.

    TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Formal charges are filed against the man arrested for a shooting Monday afternoon in Topeka. Maleek Hughes, 48, is accused of shooting Kenneth Johnson, 48, in the 800 block of SW Tyler. Johnson was treated at the hospital for injuries considered to be non-life threatening. Hughes was taken into custody at the scene, and booked two days later in connection to the incident.
