Photo by Lachlan Cunningham/Getty Images Mike Yastrzemski’s walk-off 2-run home run on Wednesday afternoon salvaged a win in the Reds series, but also served as a reminder that Mike Yastrzemski is good and cool. If you’re a San Francisco Giants fan, odds are that you — at the very least — appreciate Mike Yastrzemski’s time with the organization. If you’re a self-proclaimed ball-knower, then you might be closer to effusive in your praise of this very useful, very solid outfielder.

Photo by New York Yankees/Getty Images The San Francisco Giants have won exactly three series against the New York Yankees over the past 104 years: the 1921 & 1922 World Serieses, and the interleague matchup hosted at Oracle Park (then AT&T Park) in June 2007. It breaks down to just 25 wins in 64 franchise matchups, from New York to the Bay, and since the turn of the century — when interleague play became a regular feature of the sport — the Giants are 6-15 against the Bronx Bombers.

Last night’s 2-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds sure was frustrating, but it was also filled with an odd sense of optimism. It felt like a game from the Beforetimes, when the San Francisco Giants were (seemingly) perennial contenders. They were competitive until the final at bat. They lost but it didn’t feel like a statement loss. Instead, it’ll wind up being an interesting chapter in team history. Logan Webb was dynamite. He struck out 10 and walked 0 in 7 innings.

Katie Stratman-Imagn Images Given that the Cincinnati Reds have been the only team to beat them in 2025, this is probably the last team the San Francisco Giants want to see during their best start to a season since 2003. After all, it was just 8 to 10 days ago that the Giants ruined Opening Day for the Reds and annoyed in the rubber match of the series to take two of three in Cincinnati.

Photo by Eliot J. Schechter/Getty Images With the San Francisco Giants off to their best start since 2003, and before they have a chance to fall off that pace — that team started 13-1 — I thought it would be fun to commiserate about that season by ranking my memories of it from worst to best. 2003 was a transitional year.

Anthony Davis has missed the past 18 games with a left adductor strain and was initially targeting Tuesday at Madison Square Garden for his return, but the comeback game could be moved up to tonight at Brooklyn with Dallas now moving Davis' status from doubtful to questionable.
