Photo by Alex Zadorozny/MLB Photos via Getty Images Alex Pavlovic posted to social media that the San Francisco Giants has traded 1B/DH/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. to the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations. While LWJ’s time with the Giants had logically run its course, this is still a tough place to land after being designated for assignment four days ago as the Angels are, rather famously, not very good.

Photo by Andy Kuno/San Francisco Giants/Getty Images Last month, I brought back this feature started by Doug Bruzzone many years ago and the magic of this power ranking list asserted itself immediately. Lou Trivino was ranked 8th out of 8 relievers and very quickly found himself off the roster just six days after publication. That he’s given up just 1 run in 6.2 IP with the Dodgers since then is immaterial.

Robert Edwards-Imagn Images With today’s 0-for-4, Willy Adames is now 2-for-his-last-25, with a triple and a trio of RBI. His .629 OPS for the season is among the bottom 30 for MLB regulars and the worst showing on the San Francisco Giants. It’s not what Buster Posey had in mind when he signed the shortstop to a franchise-record contract, but after a rough April — and despite this recent 2-for-25 — he has fallen back into the hitter he has been throughout his career.

Kelley L Cox-Imagn Images I’ll conclude my impromptu Mission: Impossibleweek with a look at the most volatile reliever in the San Francisco Giants bullpen: Erik Miller. He is as close to an Ethan Hunt as they can have in their relief corps. His 1.65 ERA is among the best in the sport, but given that the sample size is just 16.1 innings, it shouldn’t be viewed as the final word on his performance.

D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images Nobody thought that Matt Chapman would repeat his transcendent 2024 season (5.4 fWAR), but he’s had a somewhat anonymous start to his 2025 for the San Francisco Giants. Oh sure, there have been highlights on both sides of the ball, but .217/.338/.411 doesn’t sit quite right. A quick scan of his Statcast data suggests a reason: he’s been tremendously awful against the four-seam fastball this season. Does that mean he’s going to be just good and not great?
