BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD EVs in Malaysia, has issued an official response to a recent Power System Failure issue faced by a BYD Atto 3 owner who was travelling with his family from Melaka to Penang. As shared on a Facebook post which has gone viral, the owner said his 10-month old vehicle had suddenly performed an emergency braking on the Cheras-Kajang expressway.

2024 was quite an exciting year for the Malaysian EV market as we welcomed a range of new electric cars, ranging from budget-friendly SUVs to ultra-luxurious sedans. If we look at the sales numbers, a total of 19,208 EVs have been registered so far this year, according to the data recently released by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). On comparing it with the EVs sold from January to November in 2023, we can see a whopping increase of 86%.

After weeks of teasing on its social media pages, BYD Malaysia – through its distributor Sime Darby Beyond Auto – has now opened the floodgates to the upcoming BYD Sealion 7, with bookings for the all-electric SUV now open. No pricing information for the BYD Sealion 7 has been provided for Malaysia just yet, but we expect it to be priced slightly higher than its sedan sibling, the BYD Seal, which currently goes for RM163,800 to RM199,800.
