After paying rent, Department of Public Safety officer Demetrea Hardiman took a screenshot of her bank account funds and sent it to her supervisor. She only had $78 for the next two weeks, when she would receive her next paycheck. Hardiman works two jobs to support herself while taking classes at Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Hardiman is an active community service officer in her 18th year at USC. She lives in Los Angeles and has a 10-year-old daughter.

On Monday at least 100 students, faculty and other protesters, most covering their faces with keffiyehs, sunglasses and masks, marched out of the Trousdale and Jefferson entrance of campus to mark “one year of the U.S.-funded Israeli genocide of Palestinians,” according to an Instagram post by the organizers. The walkout, while peaceful, disrupted campus entrances and left some students stuck outside of USC.
New California law bans legacy admission among private institutions.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law on Monday that will ban private universities and colleges in California from accepting students based on legacy and donor status. This will impact admission across the state’s private institutions including USC, Stanford and Santa Clara University, among others. While earlier drafts of the bills suggested a financial penalty, this was not included in the final legislation, according to a USA Today article.
Trojans shine at the 2024 Emmys

At the 76th Emmy Awards on September 15, USC Alumni brought home wins with hit programs like “Shogun,” “Hacks” and “The Daily Show,” among others. USC and its alumni network continue to build a long list of wins at the Emmys, with a total of eight awards going to former USC students last night. USC alums are not new to Emmys success. At the 75th Emmys, which were postponed until January of 2024 due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, USC alumni scored 11 awards.
Affordable internet services to expire in April

The Affordable Connectivity Program, which provided discounted internet services to more than 22 million low-income households across the United States, will expire in April because of a lack of ongoing congressional funding. The ACP stopped accepting applications Feb. 7. This affects many of the households in the surrounding area of USC.
