The city of Mount Vernon will host a victory parade Wednesday for the players and coaches of Mount Vernon High School's state championship baseball team, according to a city news release. A group is appealing a Skagit County hearing examiner's decision to grant a permit for a battery energy storage facility in the Bayview Ridge area west of Burlington. The Skagit County Board of County Commissioners held a hearing Monday on the appeal by a group called Stewards of Skagit. A permit was approved on Jan. 2 for NextEra Energy to build its facility on 22 acres along McFarland Road that are near a Puget Sound Energy substation.
