    Newly-released data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows that 1,172 people in Scotland died from drug misuse last year – a 12 percent increase from the previous year. The total has grown nearly fivefold since 1996 when comparable data began. Scotland’s rate of drug-related deaths is infamously the highest in Europe, with 277 deaths per million people aged 15-64. The next worst-affected country, Estonia, reported 95 deaths per million.

    The Edinburgh Fringe 2024 is expected to be the largest in the festival’s history, drawing performers and tourists from around the globe. Behind the scenes, however, there is growing discontent. Impending strike action, due to start on 14 August, is set to disrupt bin collections during the festival for the second time, much to the dismay of those set to cash in on Edinburgh’s time in the limelight.

    AbstractSeveral population-level studies have described individual clinical risk factors associated with suboptimal antibody responses following COVID-19 vaccination, but none have examined multimorbidity. Others have shown that suboptimal post-vaccination responses offer reduced protection to subsequent SARS-CoV-2 infection; however, the level of protection from COVID-19 hospitalisation/death remains unconfirmed.
