Upper Great Southern product Steely Green has been nominated for the NAB AFL Goal of the Year after a superb snap for Richmond in Gather Round on Sunday. Green, who hails from Brookton-Pingelly, is one of three nominations in round five after his wonderful goal against Fremantle at Barossa Park. The small forward was hard up against the boundary in the second term, crumbing the ball from a pack near the 50m arc and snapped the ball through for a goal before celebrating with fans on the fence.

Four Great Southern products have featured in Claremont’s pulsating draw with Peel Thunder to kick off their 2025 WAFL campaign on Saturday. Anthony Davies (Borden), Declan Mountford (North Albany), Tyron Smallwood (Albany, Royals and Boxwood Hill) and Talon Delacey (North Albany) were all part of the Tigers’ round one side. The Thunder opened their premiership defence with a draw, with a furious Tigers’ comeback falling just short but giving them a share of the points at Lane Group Stadium.
