A record number of participants will hit the waves this weekend for the annual Albany Surf Craft Challenge with hundreds set to descend on the city for the iconic event. Over 300 people will travel from across the State to compete in the challenge on Sunday including 20 double surf ski teams, about 50 solo surf skis, and more than 230 surfboat competitors. Forty-six boat and ski teams will set off from the Albany Boatshed and Albany Peace Park respectively from 8am.

Albany’s best roller skaters will hit the track this weekend for their first game of the season. Great Southern Breakers will face off against the Dread Pirate Rollers at 5pm on Saturday with their opponents making the trip down from Kwinana/Armadale to Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre for the contest. For newcomers to the fast-paced, full contact sport, two live MCs will narrate all the action as the teams battle it out, racing around the oval track on four-wheel rollers.
