HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Gio Lopez will take his talents to North Carolina. Lopez, who started 11 games for South Alabama, officially announced his move from South Alabama to North Carolina on social media. Lopez started 11 games for the Jaguars, completing 66% of his passes for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns. Gio also rushed for 465 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - It took three hours, seven minutes for the Huntsville Havoc to come away with the first win of the SPHL President’s Cup Playoffs. The Havoc defeated the Evansville Thunderbolts 2-1 on Overtime to take a 1-0 lead in the best of three series. Huntsville scored their first goal in the Second Period by Craig McCabe to take a 1-0 lead. Evansville would respond with a goal in the Third Period to tie the game at 1 heading into Overtime.

The National early signing period for all sports besides Football got underway with numerous students signing letters of intent to their respective institutions across North Alabama. “All 14 years of softball is really dedicated to him (Dad) and my travel coaches,” Whitesburg Christian Academy softball player Cam Wiseman said.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The Tanner Nelson era begins at Sylvania High School. Nelson was hired during the summer of2024, replacing Tyler Vann who became the new Head Coach at Scottsboro High School. The Rams are led by All-State performer Aiden Parham at Running Back and Linebacker. The Rams have won 20 games over the last two seasons. Sylvania will open the 2024 High School Football season August 23rd against North Jackson.
