Emergency vehicle involvedVirginia State Police press releaseVirginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a Fluvanna County emergency vehicle that occurred March 19 at 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of Rt. 15 (James Madison Highway) and Rt. 6 (East River Road) in Fluvanna County. A 2022 Ford F-550 Fluvanna County emergency vehicle was heading northbound on Rt. 15 when it was unable to avoid a 1998 Ford F-150 that had pulled into the intersection from Rt. 6.
Fluvanna director of emergency services arrested

By Heather Michon, correspondentFluvanna County Director of Emergency Services James True was arrested on Friday (Jan. 10) on seven counts of sexual battery and two counts of assault and battery. All the charges are misdemeanors. County Attorney Daniel Whitten announced the arrest on Saturday, saying that True had turned himself in at the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office and was being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail. He is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday (Jan. 14).
Amato, Frazier, Jefferies, shine at state meet

By Carlos SantosEditorFluvanna County cross country runners Anna Amato, Ruby Frazier and Jack Jefferies excelled at the Virginia High School League’s Class 3 State Cross Country meet held Saturday (Nov. 16) in Blacksburg. Frazier, a junior, ran the girls 5000 meter race in 18.56.3 to place eighth out of 103 runners. Amato, a senior, finished 12th with a 19.11.7 time. They were the only girls running for Fluvanna.

State police investigating fatal officer involved shooting

Virginia State Police press releaseThe Virginia State Police Appomattox Field Office, at the request of the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday (Oct. 11) in the 400 block of Gravel Hill Road. Deputies were initially called to the residence for an armed domestic disturbance. During the incident, the suspect was found to be hiding inside a wall in the structure.
Lake Home Heavily Damaged by Monday Fire

Contributed by Mike FeazelTwo Lake Monticello firefighters were treated and released due to heat and exhaustion while battling a large fire on Haversack Road Monday afternoon (Aug. 26). No residents were injured but the residence became inhabitable, said Lake Monticello Fire Department Chief Richard Constantino. The Haversack Road area was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic by the Lake Monticello Police Department.

The Fluvanna Historical Society is researching the history of the school and wouldlike the help of anyone who has information about it. The exact location of the first school is unknown. The first attendance roster from 1887listed it as the 2nd District (Columbia District) School for Colored.
Fire and Rescue Handle Serious Accident on South Boston Rd

Contributed by Mike FeazelPhoto courtesy of the Lake Monticello Fire Department The Lake Monticello Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to a serious accident on at South Boston Road and Broken Island Road Wednesday (June 5), extinguishing a vehicle fire that threatened a house and transporting the injured driver. The vehicle was ablaze and lying on its roof about ten feet from a wooden porch and rear of the residence when first responders arrived.
Two confirmed dead in Fluvanna plane crash

Two people died when a twin-engine plane crashed in Fluvanna County today, according to the Virginia State Police. At 8:54 a.m. Sunday (May 5), the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from residents living within the 200 block of Miles Jackson Rd. in Palmyra concerning a low-flying plane and then what sounded like an explosion.
Sheriff’s office investigates malicious wounding on Nahor Manor Road

A female passenger riding in a pickup truck on Nahor Manor Road was seriously injured after a rock was thrown at the vehicle, shattering the windshield and striking her, according to a press release from the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office. She was not identified. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident which occurred during the evening of April 7, near the 800 block of Nahor Manor Road just off Rt. 53.
