Contributed by Mike FeazelThe Lake Monticello Community Foundation board voted unanimously Wednesday (April 9) to work with the Lake Monticello Owners Association to install a floating swim platform and a wood-like mobility mat to make it easier for those with mobility issues to access the beach and docks. The platform and mat, which would be completely financed by the foundation, are to be installed at the Lake’s Main Beach, hopefully in time for this summer’s swim season.

Contributed by Mike FeazelBingo is back at Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue, starting April 4, with a new day – every Friday evening – a new band of volunteers, a renovated bingo machine, new food options and updated systems, said Carol Sorber, one of the organizers. The doors will open at the fire house at 5 p.m. every Friday, with play beginning at 6:30 p.m. As before, prizes for regular games will be $100, with a progressive games increasing $100 per week, and a $1,000 jackpot.

Contributed by Mike Feazel Fluvanna’s Cunningham Creek Winery won two gold medals and three silver in the 43th annual Virginia Governor’s Cup wine competition, the Governor’s Cup announced Monday (Feb. 24). Cunningham Creek submitted five wines to the competition and it earned gold medals for its 2023 Viognier and 2021 Meritage, plus silver medals for 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2022 Herd Dog Red and 2022 Rivanna Red.

Contributed by Mike FeazelIn 1824 Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette, maybe the 1820s equivalent of Taylor Swift in popularity in America, came to Fluvanna, and Fluvanna is going to commemorate the 200th anniversary of that visit Nov. 3. The commemoration will include a re-enactment of Lafayette’s arrival in a horse-drawn carriage at 3 p.m. in Wilmington for the dedication of The Lafayette Trail Marker at Currin’s Tavern.

The event is at Pleasant Grove Park will be held Sept. 28 from noon to 5 p.m.The Family Fall Festival will feature more than 50 vendors including a farmers’ market, a half dozen food trucks, master gardeners, local farmers, artists, a native plants sale, first responders, local foods, handmade crafts and jewelry.
