    WATERTOWN – Daniel Kusel, Sr. had been running his tinsmith business in Germany for just under a decade when the 1848 Revolution in Germany broke out, driving him to bring his family to Wisconsin in 1849 – only a year after the territory became a state. There, he immediately opened a tinware business at 108 W. Main Street. The business grew to incorporate other metal materials and hardware, becoming the state’s oldest hardware shop until it closed in 1985.
