Daily Jefferson County Union

The small four-page weekly newspaper started in Lake Mills but relocated to Fort Atkinson on May 2, 1883, thanks to the encouragement of local business owners. Since Hoard lacked the funds to set up his own printing facility, he collaborated with Miss Emma Brown, who was already printing The Wisconsin Chief, a newspaper focused on temperance. By around 1883, he managed to purchase his own printing plant, which was situated at the intersection of South Main and South Third streets.
