ILLINOIS (KFVS) - There has been an alarming increase in the number of Illinois State Police troopers injured or killed on Illinois’ roads, and troopers want drivers to do their part to stop it. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial fund reports 52 police officers in the U.S. were killed by firearms in 2024.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A burn ban has been issued for parts of Alexander County, Illinois following multiple brush fires in the area this week. Horseshoe Lake Fire District Chief Josh McKee is putting a burn ban in place due to dry conditions and rash of brush fires. He said Horseshoe Lake Firefighters have responded to two brush fires in two days. The most recent was during the evening hours on Tuesday, February 20, which burned 50 to 60 acres.

TAMMS, Ill. (KFVS) - It began with a fire, a missing person, and a body found two states away. Now, more than four years later, the question remains: who killed Larry McNelly? It’s a question that’s haunted folks in Alexander County since it happened in 2019. “I can’t imagine the people who were involved in this having any peace whatsoever having done something like this to my brother,” said McNelly’s sister, Debbie Goins.

KENNETT, Mo. (KFVS) - Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a use-of-force death in Kennett. According to MSHP Sergeant Clark Parrott, Kennett Police Department called in the Highway Patrol Tuesday night (10/3) to conduct a use-of-force incident which resulted in the death of a man. Parrott says the incident involved a taser, not a firearm, and that the victim was rushed to a Pemiscot County hospital and later died.
