By Carmen VitaliPublished  June 11, 2025 11:26am CDT Bears reporter on Ben Johnson coaching: 'Haven't covered anything like this before' | The Offseason The Athletic's Adam Jahns wraps up three days of Bears minicamp where the emphasis was on details. How will Caleb Williams receive Ben Johnson's coaching, should Jaquan Brisker change his playing style after a season-ending concussion, Cole Kmet's reaction to the Bears drafting Colston Loveland and more. I'm optimistic about the Chicago Bears.

Free agency frenzy has come and gone. So has the 2025 NFL Draft. NFL teams are busy going through the final phase of their offseason programs and their rosters are all but set until training camps open at the end of July. Now that we have a decent idea of what each team is working with, ask not what they have, but what they don’t. These are each AFC team’s biggest needs going into the summer lull — and potential players that are still available to fill those needs.

I’m optimistic about the Chicago Bears. There’s a sentence I haven’t said in a while. They’ve done everything right (and differently!) this offseason, and it looks like they’ll be much improved this season. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Bears will be in the playoffs or win the NFC North. They still have to walk before they can run. After winning just five games last season, the bar for improvement is pretty low.

It is going to be a bloodbath in the NFC North this season, just like it was last year. With how competitive the division is, it seems likely that all four teams will somewhat cannibalize each other. On top of that, they have to play the AFC North and NFC East. The Lions have to then contend with a first-place schedule thanks to their 15 wins last year.
