The 2025 NFL Draft is just over a week away, and every team still owns its first-round pick. Not once since the league expanded to 32 teams in 2002 has each club entered Draft Day in possession of its original top pick. Every team also has at least one Day 2 selection. All but three own a second-round pick. Only four don't have a third-round pick. It paves the way for more clubs to fill their most glaring roster holes early in the draft.

The dirty little secret of the NFL Draft is that the way the league and the media collectively think is completely different. We spend all of draft season postulating traits, evaluations and fits when it comes to prospects, only to inevitably see players slide further or go higher than any of the mock drafts predicted. Of course, each team has its own priorities and its own preferences. It leads to some phenomenal surprises, particularly in the first round.

The trenches are all the rage now that the Philadelphia Eagles have won two Super Bowls and played in three of them in the past eight years. They prioritize team-building from the inside out and the rest of the league has taken notice. It's nothing new. Some front offices have always prioritized the big sexies and that gave me an idea. I have decided to conduct a thought exercise in which every team has to take an offensive or defensive lineman in the first round. It wasn't even particularly hard.

Much has been made this offseason about the importance of the offensive and defensive lines in building an NFL team. You can probably thank the Philadelphia Eagles for that. It's not a coincidence that the team who reached the peak of the mountaintop, winning Super Bowl LIX, is known for investing heavily along the line of scrimmage, after all.

Just a week into NFL free agency, the bulk of the major deals are done. There's now an opportunity to evaluate which teams got better and why. Did they throw money at the big names? Did they spend wisely? Strategically? Who played the game the best? To figure that out, you can start with who got the most bang for their buck. For as many big contracts teams handed out, especially to wide receivers, there were some surprises on the other end of the spectrum.
