    Cushioning is measured by stack height, or the distance between your foot and the ground when you’re wearing a shoe. “Some runners prefer high-stack shoes because they don’t want to feel the ground beneath their feet and they feel more protected with more cushion,” says Bermel. Others prefer something lower because they like the feedback from the ground with each step. There are also different types of cushioning. In softer shoes, you’ll feel like your feet are sinking into the cushion.
