ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Three Carter County jailers have now been charged for sexually assaulting an inmate at the Carter County Jail. District Attorney Melissa Handke said the three incarcerated victims named in court records accusing the jailers either spoke to other jailers, deputies, or other inmates about their assault. “We have filed charges before on jailers or deputies,” Handke said. “To have three at the same time, it is higher than what we normally have.

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Since 2020,16 million young voters are now eligible to help choose America’s next president. But not all of them are registered. Around 35 percent fewer 18 and 19 year olds have registered to vote in Texas and Oklahoma than in the last presidential election. CBS polling data shows that only 66% of registered voters under 30 years old plan to vote in the 2024 presidential election. Isaac Gauwitz said some of his friends don’t think it makes a difference, but he disagrees.

SPRINGER, Okla. (KXII) - A Springer couple is thankful to be alive after a fire destroyed nearly everything they owned. Leroy and Rita Adcox had been staying in a camper while working to renovate their home, keeping their belongings in bins. But about a week ago the couple was woken up by a phone call in the early morning hours. Family let them know they needed to get out of the camper, and almost everything they owned was on fire in the bins. “It was a shock. It was really a big shock,” Rita said.
CERT camp trains students to safely respond to disasters

TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KXII) - High schoolers are learning how to save lives and respond to disasters at a CERT camp at Murray State College this week. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. They’re trained to immediately help out after disasters, such as the recent tornadoes, and make it easier for emergency services to respond.

(KXII) - Monday marks 11 years since Molly Miller and Colt Haynes were last heard from. “I don’t think they ever had any thoughts that anything bad was going to happen to either one of them,” Molly’s cousin Paula Fielder said. 17-year-old Molly and 21-year-old Colt were passengers in a car driven by 22-year-old James Conn Nipp in a cross-county car chase in July of 2013. The car drove from Wilson in Carter County into Love County, where it crashed into the woods.
Local lawmaker intends to file bill to update election tie procedures

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Carter County was shocked when the news came down on election night- a tie in the local sheriff election. Now Representative Tammy Townley is looking to see if anything can be done to update election procedures. The Carter County Election Board Secretary told News 12 she had never seen an outright tie before. But last week vote counters and talliers worked for hours at the courthouse, and confirmed it, leading to the infamous name drawing for a tie breaker.

OSBI Public Information Officer Hunter McKee told News 12 the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI’s help Saturday at 9:30 p.m.The investigation is still ongoing, and McKee confirmed that no arrests have been made yet. MADILL, Okla. (KXII) - More than a hundred people showed up to the informal hearing on Wednesday at the Wildcat Den in Madill. Each person who wanted to speak was given three minutes. Many stated their opposition and gave the rest of their time to other speakers, such as Jeff Landgraf of Landgraf Pecans off Highway 70. Landgraf worked with lawyer Krystina Phillips to present a case for why the sand mine shouldn’t move forward.

ADA, Okla. (KXII) - Federal census data shows that around a third of Oklahomans live in a rural area. It can be difficult to access healthcare in rural parts of the country, in part because many rural communities have a shortage of healthcare workers. East Central University is working to change that. The Rural Health Association of Oklahoma said part of the health care desert problem in this state was hospitals closing down.
