PARIS, Texas (KTEN) — A man accused of severely abusing his own 10-year-old daughter was convicted Tuesday by a jury in Lamar County. The jury then sentenced Ramon Alvarez, 65, to 60 years in state prison on each charge of abuse: Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Injury to a Child Causing Serious Mental Injury. First Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Kaminar said Judge Wes Tidwell ordered the sentences to be stacked for a total of 120 years in prison.

(KTEN) — The only passenger rail service linking Fort Worth, Texas, and Oklahoma City could now be facing extinction. Amtrak said its Heartland Flyer route "faces imminent service suspension no later than October 1 unless Texas secures its share of funding."The Texas Legislature has failed to renew the state's biannual $7.05 million subsidy for its share of the line, which includes stops in Norman, Purcell, Pauls Valley and Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Gainesville, Texas.

Kevin Stitt on Thursday announced a new program aimed at helping county, tribal and local law enforcement agencies secure public events across the state each year. Citing recent tragic events — including a fiery attack on protesters in Colorado and a vehicle attack in New Orleans — the Republican governor said a council of public safety experts has come up with a way for Oklahoma to be ready for anything.

SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — A man accused of assaulting another man and his ex-wife was arrested in Sherman Tuesday after an altercation at a residence in the 800 block of South Heritage Parkway. Sherman police said Emilson De Dios-Escobar, 28, was initially hospitalized for treatment of injuries to his head and face. According to investigators, the suspect had reportedly been causing ongoing issues for his former wife.

By Abby Haymond, Walt Zwirko WYNNEWOOD, Okla. (KTEN) - Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the April murders of two people at a Garvin County marijuana grow. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said 18-year-old Whyitt Collins was taken into custody on May 23 and booked on a charge of first-degree murder.
