Her father’s family traces its roots to White Castle, where the plantation is based, and she believes some of her ancestors were enslaved there. “It’s personal for me,” Thompson said. “There’s literally a heat I feel.” She wasn’t the only one with a strong reaction.

A small plane crashed into a San Diego military housing neighborhood on Thursday morning, killing multiple individuals on the plane, officials confirmed. Addressing reporters at the site of the crash, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Assistant Chief Dan Eddy said that the plane struck about 15 homes, causing multiple homes and cars to catch fire. “I just walked it myself, and down the street itself, it looks like something from a movie,” Eddy said Thursday morning.

Video taken at a Minnesota public park this week shows a white woman apparently admitting she used a racist slur against a Black youth she accused of taking an item that belongs to her child. The man who recorded the video, Sharmake Omar, 30, said in an interview Friday that the 5-year-old child was called the N-word by the woman Monday. "The Rochester Police Department is aware of the video that was posted on social media and has received multiple calls related to it," it said Friday.
