ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — Horry County Fire Rescue said that 12 people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after officials said a couple of fights broke out at the annual Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival. Officials said that several people were injured trying to leave the area after a couple of fights broke out "causing panic in the crowd," according to a statement from the Town of Atlantic Beach.

"It's like Christmas. It only comes once a year, I’ve come all the way from Atlanta Georgia to sell T-shirts," said Danny Brewster, T-shirt City vendor from Atlanta, Georgia. "I’ve been doing this since 1995 and I want continuously to come, but we got to control the young generation and give them something to do so we can have bike week," said Brewster. This comes after reports were circulating on social media of a mass casualty at the event late Saturday evening into the morning.

The deputy was 24-year-old Nathaniel “Nate” Ansay, according to Major Michael M. Nunn with the FCSO. Nunn said that Ansay was on duty when the accident happened. Florence County Sheriff TJ Joye said that Ansay was a remarkable, young deputy, who never complained, and he vividly remembers his last conversation with Ansay. Joye said that Ansay told him this past Sunday while they were attending a funeral for a fellow officer, that he loved being a deputy and he just loved doing his job.
