Hopes have been raised that a care home will be saved from closure following crisis talks by a council behind closed doors. HC-One announced last month that it is to close Moss Park Care Home in Caol, near Fort William, by the end of the year. It is the town's only remaining nursing home. The company said the decision had not been taken lightly but it had for many years struggled to attract and retain a permanent team of staff.

(Image: BBC) An oncology ward at a Scottish hospital is to close after a number of patients were treated for a bug linked to mould and another that is described as 'hard to treat'. The Herald has been told that the cases were identified in May and have been listed on the death certificates of "at least three or four patients".

Highland MSP Kate Forbes has hailed Lochaber healthcare campaigners as councillors voted to back a plan to save Fort William's only nursing home. Operator HC-One gave notice in September of its intention to close the 39-bed Moss Park care home just before Christmas, and the local community and Lochaber MSP have been fighting to keep it open ever since.
