A retiree is being remembered as the life of the party and a handyman who could fix anything after he was allegedly murdered by a thief inside his own home. Phillip Lewis, 70, was found dead at his property on Wensleydale Dr at Alfredton in Ballarat, Victoria, just before 9am on Monday. His grieving family told 7NEWS in a statement they are “devastated”.

The family of a single mum left fighting for life after she drove on the wrong side of an Australian freeway and collided head-on with a truck say the mistake could happen to anyone. Paulina Prieto, 36, was heading home in the early hours of Friday morning when she turned at an intersection and travelled against traffic on the city-bound lanes of Melbourne’s CityLink. A teacher has allegedly been carjacked at knifepoint by a girl in a school staff carpark. The victim was approached at Berwick College in Melbourne’s southeast by a 15-year-old girl who is accused of demanding the keys to the Ford Focus before fleeing in the vehicle. The teen was arrested at Wingham Park in Frankston, a 30-minute drive from the school, and the car was found nearby.
