Three King County residents died in a North Cascades rock-climbing accident Sunday when their equipment failed as they rappelled down the side of a steep gully near North Early Winters Spire, about 16 miles west of Mazama, the Okanogan County sheriff’s office said. A fourth climber sustained internal bleeding and a traumatic brain injury in the fall, but survived.

An 83-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Seattle’s Sodo neighborhood on Monday morning. A person driving an SUV hit the woman as she was walking westbound in the crosswalk at South Spokane Street and Fourth Avenue South. The incident was reported at about 7:45 a.m., the Seattle Police Department said in a blotter post.

Two Gig Harbor men whom firefighters found dead inside a burning rental home on April 8 died from gunshot wounds to their heads, not fire-related injuries, Pierce County officials said. The Pierce County medical examiner’s office said Oliverio Huitron-Rosalez, 64, and Alejandro Huitron Campos, 31, died in homicides. Pierce County sheriff’s office detectives could not release additional information because of their active investigation, said spokesperson Deputy Carly Cappetto.
