An Orleans Parish Coroner's Office employee was fired after being captured on camera apparently dragging the bagged body of a homicide victim down the front steps of a Bywater home Thursday night, raising fresh criticism about the office’s procedures. The footage, which was released by Project NOLA, the crime camera operator that captured it, was taken as the investigators and other personnel worked the scene of a homicide reported by the New Orleans Police Department earlier that night.

A 76-year-old man died in the hospital Sunday after being struck by a car while walking along Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie eight days earlier. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to call at about 10 p.m. on March 15 and found the man on the ground in the right westbound lane. A woman in a stopped Toyota Sienna was in the left lane when they arrived. The man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Two boys were injured in a shooting in the Pines Village neighborhood Thursday night, the New Orleans Police Department said. The NOPD received a call about a shooting in the 4400 block of Skyview Drive just before 7 p.m., and initial reports showed paramedics brought the victim to the hospital. Just before 9 p.m., the NOPD said a second juvenile injured in the same shooting arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle.

New Orleans police are investigating a homicide in the 2100 block of Second Street in Central City. Officers responding to a call at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday found a man wounded by gunfire. He later died at the scene. The New Orleans Police Department said a subject has been detained and is being questioned. No further information was made available.
