Back in late February, long time head softball coach Don “Duck” Johnson suffered bleeding in his brain, requiring immediate surgery. Johnson has been in recovery and receiving treatment since, though he was forced to step away from his coaching duties this season.

WEST, Texas (KWTX) - Senior year has been one rocky road for West track and field standout Coy Klish. “It’s just been like a roller coaster, really,” said Klish. “Football was going great and then I was just set back so badly.”This past October, Klish tore his ACL playing football. The future of his athletic career became uncertain. “We saw the doctor the next morning and he was like ‘Don’t even think about football,’” said Klish.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The spring football season for the Baylor Bears has officially come to a close. On Saturday, the Bears hosted their Baylor Blitz event at McLane Stadium with a skills challenge for kids and an open team practice as they head into the summer. After the final spring practice, head coach Dave Aranda said his team is feeling a lot more confident after this year’s spring versus last year’s. “A lot of boxes that we checked off,” said Aranda.

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (KWTX) - Former Connally Cadet football star Korie Black is headed to the NFL. The Oklahoma State defensive back and team captain was the selected in the seventh (30, 246 overall) of the NFL Draft by the New York Giants on Saturday. The Waco native was a four-year letterman at Connally High School from 2016-2019. Black helped the Cadets to multiple playoff appearances, including a 12-1 record and a third round playoff appearance in 2019.

MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - After a long history of losing season after losing season, McGregor softball is pulling off one of the better turnarounds Central Texas has seen. “It’s easily the most fun high school season I’ve ever had,” said senior Addy Todd. “It’s not just because we’re winning. We’re working together and we all genuinely feel for each other and love each other.”The Bulldog’s 21-3 start to the season is one of the best in program history.
