The City of Winnipeg is looking at creating a new program for public art funding in new builds. The city’s executive policy committee will hear a proposal for a public art program that would include a percentage set aside in all construction budgets to incorporate public art. “The advantage of implementing a pooled percent-for-art program is the flexibility it provides,” states a report to the committee.

A 42-year-old man reported missing last month has been found dead. Martin “Raymond” Murdoch, 42, was last seen walking in Fisher River Cree Nation on March 31, 2025. He was reported missing on April 9. RCMP announced Monday that he was found dead. “Our thoughts are with the man’s family, friends, and community at this time,” RCMP wrote in a statement. The investigation continues, and an autopsy will be performed.

Two more suspects allegedly involved in series of break and enters in rural Manitoba have been arrested, while RCMP are searching for another suspect who may be armed. RCMP officers with the Portage la Prairie detachment responded to several thefts of property and off-road vehicles in the RM of North Norfolk early Sunday morning. Video footage from one property near MacGregor shows multiple suspects armed with firearms leaving a vehicle to commit thefts.

The Winnipeg Police Service is reporting spending under budget in its latest quarterly report. The fourth quarter financial report was released in the city’s finance committee agenda, and shows the service is under budget by $4.7 million, totalling $272.8 million in expenses. “Expenses exceeded budget; however, the expenditures were offset by increased revenues related to Police Services, traffic enforcement and government grants,” the report said.

Residents of a Winnipeg apartment building are showing their Canadian pride. Multiple Canadian flags adorned the balconies of The Chateau Guay on Goulet Street in St. Boniface on Thursday. Nearly every floor of the 16-storey building had a flag on their balcony, in addition to the larger flag on the roof. Canadian patriotism and pride has become a flashpoint in recent months due to threats of annexation and tariffs from the United States.
