    One man has died and another man remains missing after their boat ended up stranded on Lake Manitoba Thursday. According to RCMP, officers from the Treherne detachment received a request for help from the Sandy Bay Fire Department. Mounties were told that two men from Sandy Bay First Nation, a 41-year-old and 22-year-old, launched a boat from behind the water treatment plant earlier in the day.

    Several Manitoba communities near The Pas have evacuated due to an out-of-control wildfire in the area. According to the RM of Kelsey Facebook page, Rocky Lake East Shore, Rocky Lake North Shore, Wanless and the Carrot Valley along Highway 283 were evacuated Thursday. Evacuees can register at the Wescana Inn in The Pas at the Rendezvous Room once out of the community. The RM also posted Thursday that the fire could have an impact on the water treatment plant.

    An adaptation of a Stephen King novel filmed last year in Manitoba now has a trailer and a release date. The trailer for the Lionsgate film ‘The Long Walk,’ was officially released online Wednesday. The movie is adapted from King’s 1979 dystopian novel of the same name, written under the pen name Richard Bachman. It’s about a race where the contestants must keep walking at three miles per hour, or be shot. The last one walking wins.

    Winnipeggers living in the Southdale neighbourhood are looking to get more eyes on the streets to help curb crime. Work has started to create a Citizens on Patrol team in the community, where members would be trained and start walking the streets to deter crime. Kevin Dickson, chair of the Southdale Residents Group, said the idea for the group came from an active Facebook page dedicated to reporting crime in the area. “The idea behind the group is look, observe and report,” he said.

    A 49-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly broke into the home of a teenage girl in Thompson and sexually assaulted her. RCMP were called to a home at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a sexual assault. Mounties allege the man, who was known to the victim, broke into her home while she was sleeping, and sexually assaulted her. Police said the teen was alone at the time. When officers arrived at the home they learned the girl had been able to escape and ran to a nearby house.
