Winnipeg police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to a number of cats that were found dead. CTV News Winnipeg previously reported that approximately six cats were found in bags on the path under the Summit Road bridge. The animals were found on Dec. 8, Dec. 28, and Dec. 30. Police were able to identify a suspect and he was arrested on Jan. 10. Investigators said the man would lure the cats or get them through social media before injuring and killing them.

Freezing temperatures created challenging conditions as crews battled a blaze at a vacant church on Monday. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called to the fire at the Euclid Avenue church around 6:15 p.m. When firefighters got to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building and launched an exterior attack as it was not safe to go inside.
