The new Gaelic football playing rules being trialled in 2025 will have a grand opening on Jan. 25, with three big National Football league games fixed for that Saturday evening. With no pre-season competitions next year, supporters will have to wait until the last weekend in January to see the new rules which were passed in their entirety at the recent GAA Special Congress, operating in a competitive environment at inter-county level for the first time.

I was thrilled to accept an invitation from new friends and neighbors Lori and Mark to what turned out to be an international Thanksgiving. Celebrating with guests from other countries was a reminder that the U.S. is still a nation of immigrants whose work and arts make this country strong. I found it especially meaningful to sit down to dinner with people from countries like Germany, Poland and Portugal. Our host Lori’s family is from Italy and husband Mark’s ancestors from Israel.
