BUFFALO, N.Y. — Even Erie County Sheriff John Garcia acknowledges that his office is not the best at responding to requests made under New York’s Freedom of Information Law. “We have to get better, OK?” Garcia said Friday. “We have to get better.” When it comes to transparency for the sheriff’s office, it’s a case of words vs. actions. The photographs were taken a decade ago during a much different time in my life. I was married then, and being Catholic was a huge part of my identity. So I couldn’t have been more excited to travel to Philadelphia for a chance to see Pope Francis. In one photo, my Mom is holding her phone sideways, taking a selfie of my brother, Mike, and I. In another, I pose with Jay Tokasz, my friend and former colleague at The Buffalo News.

I have mixed feelings about Pope Francis. So much in my life as a Catholic changed between the time @JayTokasz and I went to Philly for Francis’ visit in 2015. We would soon discover the darkness in our own @BuffaloDiocese. My reflection: https://t.co/Q77WU7vVml https://t.co/YYf8KW3cmX

Nobody captures the absurdity of the local political "silly season" like TV's @natebenson. https://t.co/JeSVKlAEB3 https://t.co/c2Xaa41WWC

Erie County Sheriff John Garcia confirmed to @WGRZ that Granville is on administrative leave. Garcia said Granville has been on leave since April 14, but the sheriff said he did not make that information public because nobody asked. https://t.co/UEXOXQnf9x
