Every year, The Hustler conducts an in-depth survey of Vanderbilt's newest class to understand who they are and what defines them, from academic achievements to campus life preferences. What began as a simple questionnaire has evolved into a comprehensive snapshot of each incoming class. What are the Class of 2028’s views on political issues? Are they planning on joining Greek life? How many first-years are already wishing they were in Peabody College?

Over 300 protestors joined Students Demand Action at the “Rally for Antioch” on Jan. 27, to call for gun reform following the shooting at Antioch High School on Jan. 23. The rally was held the same day as a special legislative session — called by Governor Bill Lee to address school vouchers and hurricane disaster relief — with the goal of adding gun reform to the docket. Two local high school students coordinated the protest with support from Vanderbilt’s chapter of SDA and community organizers.

The Vanderbilt chapter of Tikkun Olam Makers, a global movement working to make affordable solutions for people living with disabilities, hosted its seventh annual Makeathon from Oct. 25 to 27 at the Wond’ry. The event involved 12 teams of “Makers,” members of the club, creating accessible and open-source solutions for “Need Knowers,” people with disabilities or other unmet needs. The event culminated in a showcase on Sunday where each team finished its prototype and presented its work.

Vanderbilt University continues to deny investments in CoreCivic, a company that owns and manages prison and detention centers, amidst federal investigation into the company and Trousdale Turner Correctional Center. The Justice Department is investigating this facility for staffing shortages, physical violence, murder and sexual abuse, according to a press release by the Office of Public Affairs.
