At the start of Snow Strippers’ Basement East set, Graham Perez stood on stage alone with his turntable, accompanied by a projected silhouette of the duo’s other half, Tatiana Schwaninger. A bass-boosted piano melody gave way to screeching synthesizers, the beginning of “Just Your Doll” from the duo’s “Night Killaz Vol. 1” album.

In Horse Jumper of Love’s first album, frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos, bassist John Margaris and drummer Jamie Vadala-Doran revel in a classically teenage boy brand of angst and sleaze. According to Giannopoulos, the self-titled LP was born out of haphazard studio sessions full of heavy drinking; the result is a jumble of nihilistic lyrics and straggling hooks — almost indecipherable amid a haze of guitar fuzz — that’s kind of insufferable, yet perversely fun to lose oneself in.

By the time Grimey’s opened on Thursday, a line of expectant patrons snaked around the corner of the building. Some had camped out with lawn chairs and blankets as early as 8 a.m., and all were vying for one of the 50 tickets guaranteeing entry to the ANTI- Records 25th Anniversary party happening that night at The Basement East. ANTI- burst into the scene in 1999, the same year Americana Music Association organized their first festival and conference.
