Home prices and mortgage rates remain high. In the second quarter of this year, the median U.S. home price for houses sold was $412,300, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Although mortgage rates were expected to start declining with the Federal Reserve rate cut of 50 basis points in September, the average rates for 30-year mortgages have been increasing in recent weeks.
