An alleged suspect in a hit-and-run fatal crash in Owen Sound has turned himself into police. The collision occurred on Saturday at around 3 a.m. near 5th Street East and 5th Avenue East. The Owen Sound Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) had appealed to the public for help identifying the driver of the vehicle who left the scene after the crash. After consulting a lawyer, a 21-year-old Owen Sound man surrendered himself to police.

During Safe Boating Awareness Week, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is strongly urging paddlers to wear lifejackets. OPP’s statistics show of 131 people who died in Ontario’s lakes and rivers in the last five years, 56 paddlers lost their lives. Between 2020-2024, 34 canoeists died in marine incidents, 17 kayakers died and five people died from paddleboarding.
