Elkhorn North's Andrew Nietfeldt downed York's Jaxson Hinze on the first playoff hole to win the Class B individual state championship Thursday at Monument Shadows in Gering. Nietfeldt helped lead Elkhorn North to its first-ever boys title as the Wolves finished with a two-day score of 605, 12 shots ahead of defending champion Norris. Lincoln Pius X was third at 625.

KEARNEY — The timing for Max Moss and Lincoln East was impeccable. For Moss, the sophomore's first-ever high school golf tournament win came Thursday in the Class A state tournament at Kearney Country Club, when he defeated Lincoln Southeast's Miles Elgert in a playoff. And for East, the somewhat unexpected Class A team championship put the cap on the Spartans' best stretch of golf of the season. "Right now, I'm just shocked.

For the third year in a row, Omaha Westside will have to hunt down a Lincoln team if it wants to win the Class A boys state golf championship. This year though, it's a bunch of Spartans instead of a group of Knights. Led by sophomores Max Moss and Carter Honnens, Lincoln East fired a 288 to open up a four-stroke lead after the first round of the Class A state tournament at Kearney Country Club. Moss held the individual lead after a 3-under 68, with Honnens one back. Also tied for second?

It wasn't looking good for Palmyra's Collin Hillman. The senior rounded the curve in the Class C boys 300-meter hurdles and found himself will back of not only leader Isaac Cronin of Valentine, but second-place runner Evan Ault of Freeman as well. Hillman felt good about catching Ault for second. He wasn't so sure about getting to Cronin. Turns out he got them both.
