A Cowgirl Comes to the Library

Heidi Redd is a local legend. Many may recognize the last name Redd, which belongs to an established family of ranchers based mostly out of La Sal. In 2023, Redd published a memoir called “A Cowgirl’s Conservation Journey,” written along with Larisa Bowen, a writer with the nonprofit The Nature Conservancy. The book recounts Redd’s gritty adventures and is laced with a love that extends from the rock features of the region to the cowhands who have worked on the ranch.
GCHS girls tennis competes at State Tournament

The Grand County High School Girls Tennis Team finished their season this past weekend at the 3A state tournament in SLC. 2A schools are combined with 3A schools at the state tournament to increase the number of overall teams in the pool. The varsity girls competed in the first round of the tournament at Brighton High School on Thursday. The Lady Red Devils had some very tough match-ups and hard-fought games. At the end of the day, they came away with one win that would advance to the next day.
Moab Ho Down Mountain Bike Festival makes its comeback this month

Since 2006, the Moab Ho Down Mountain Bike Festival has drawn locals and visitors alike for multiple days of unique cycling events. After a four-year hiatus, the Ho Down will return, running from October 24 to 27 with a jam-packed slate of activities for riders of all skill levels. Tracy Bentley started the Ho Down in 2006 after seeing other local mountain biking events quit.
Better than Crystal City - Topaz Stories

Through this fall and winter, the Museum is proud to exhibit “Topaz Stories: Remembering the Japanese American Incarceration” in tandem with “A Moab Prison Camp,” lending a state-wide perspective to this dark period of American history during WWII. The Friends of Topaz collected numerous oral histories and personal reminiscences from survivors and descendants; however, not all are currently featured in the Moab Museum space.

September 29, 1930 – September 28, 2024Dorothy Ruth Rossignol, born Dorothy Jackman on September 29, 1930, in Niagara Falls, New York, passed away peacefully one day shy of her 94th birthday, on September 28, 2024. Dorothy was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, defying the odds from the start as she was born two months premature and not expected to survive. She went on to live a life filled with adventure, love, and service to her community and country.

August 1, 1981 – October 1, 2024Tyson Andrew Day was born on August 1, 1981, to Crystal Cortes and Randy Day in Moab. From the beginning, Tyson liked to make an entrance. He decided to come 10 days fashionably late to his own birth, right after the propane explosion. Throughout his life, Tyson continued this trend of doing things on his own time. Starting in preschool, Tyson took pride in always looking good.

An iconic Moab guide house and a heritage cottonwood tree are set to be razed to make way for more luxury homes. This isn’t surprising for our town, but as these places dwindle, I wanted to pay tribute to the “5th Whiskey” house, where I cherished four years of life, graciously rented far below market rate by the previous owner. I often enjoyed coffee on the porch of the 150 sq. ft. studio in the back, watching no fewer than fifteen deer twitch their big ears in the calm of the morning.
