    WabiSabi’s annual Thanksgiving dinner returns for another year on this Thanksgiving Day. The free event offers a holiday meal to everyone in the community, especially those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to share a special feast. “It’s been a community staple for such a long time, and people look forward to it,” said Leah Bear, WabiSabi’s executive director. “So many people in the community come and volunteer at the dinner; they’ll ask to volunteer as early as September,” she said.

    The Red Canyon Powwow is back and celebrating its third year at the Old Spanish Trail Arena. Hosted by the nonprofit Cultural Fire Events, the event will feature dancing and singing from many of the eight tribes of the Southwest. “Anyone who is part of the powwow society dances,” said Jacob Crane, Executive Director of Cultural Fire Events. “It’s a celebration and a gathering that brings people from all over to celebrate.

    Heidi Redd is a local legend. Many may recognize the last name Redd, which belongs to an established family of ranchers based mostly out of La Sal. In 2023, Redd published a memoir called “A Cowgirl’s Conservation Journey,” written along with Larisa Bowen, a writer with the nonprofit The Nature Conservancy. The book recounts Redd’s gritty adventures and is laced with a love that extends from the rock features of the region to the cowhands who have worked on the ranch.

    Since 2006, the Moab Ho Down Mountain Bike Festival has drawn locals and visitors alike for multiple days of unique cycling events. After a four-year hiatus, the Ho Down will return, running from October 24 to 27 with a jam-packed slate of activities for riders of all skill levels. Tracy Bentley started the Ho Down in 2006 after seeing other local mountain biking events quit.
