Nova Scotia students and apprentices picked up 13 medals at the Skills Canada National Competition last week in Regina, Sask. Team Nova Scotia earned three gold medals, six silver and four bronze at the multi-trade and technology event, which highlights top young talent in skilled trades and technology across the country. A release from Skills Canada says the provincial team included 41 of Nova Scotia's top secondary and post-secondary students, as well as apprentices.

A patient safety advocate says the number of reported bedsores in Nova Scotia hospitals is on the rise. Katharina Kovacs-Burns, chair of Patients for Patient Safety Canada, says the trend is very concerning. She tells 95.7 NewsRadio that more needs to be done to curb the number of bedsores in the province's hospitals. "It's a multi-level approach that needs to be taken," said Kovacs-Burns.

The head of the NSGEU is applauding the province's move to look into the sales and consumption of alcohol in Nova Scotia. Yesterday, Finance Minister John Lohr announced a month-long public survey examining how alcohol is sold and consumed, as the province considers expanding sales to various retail outlets like corner stores.

A man has died following a shooting that took place in Dartmouth on Thursday. At roughly 12 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Highfield Park Drive and True North Crescent. Police said the found a man in a vehicle with gunshot wounds, adding they performed CPR on the victim but he was pronounced dead. The incident is being treated as a homicide and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service will conduct an autopsy.

The province says no charges will be laid in connection to the 2023 wildfire in Upper Tantallon and Hammonds Plains. The Department of Natural Resources put out a statement on the two year anniversary of the wildfire, saying the investigation has wrapped up. "After exhausting all possible avenues, the province is unable to lay charges in relation to the 2023 wildfire in Upper Tantallon/Hammonds Plains," the statement said.
