A series of archaeological digs around a major new pipeline have uncovered fascinating finds, spanning the prehistoric age through to Roman times. Sites near to the villages of Maxey and Etton were among 80 areas of excavation along the route of a 330km water pipeline from North Lincolnshire to Colchester, in Essex.

A group of local volunteers are hosting a walk or bike ride to raise awareness and funds for a charity. The Bluebell Walk or Cycle Ride takes place at Rutland Water on Sunday, May 4, from 10am to 4pm, for Crohn's & Colitis UK. Participants can choose either a two, five or nine-mile walk or a cycle ride of 17 or 25 miles around a marshalled course. There will be an event village at Whitwell featuring face painters, garden games, merchandise stands and refreshments.

A business owner who contributed to the British war effort during the Gulf War is now putting his manufacturing skills to helping Ukrainian troops. Mark Lawrence set up the Side Curtain Company in Spalding eight years ago before moving the business to Colsterworth about two-and-a-half years ago. When not busy creating side curtains for lorry trailers, Mark turns the PVC off-cuts into stretchers for the Ukrainian Army. “It’s just nice to put something back in,” he said.
