    A football fundraiser has helped a charity, set up in memory of a former team-mate, approach a new landmark. The match, played at Bourne Abbey Lawns last month, raised £3,319.42 for Murph’s House Charity in aid of Ward C9 at Addenbrookes Hospital, in Cambridge. The charity was set up by friends of Conor Murphy and has now raised a total of £18,500 for Ward C9 which cares for young people with cancer.

    An internationally-renowned musician who can solve a Rubik’s Cube while playing the harp is coming to a town venue next week. Jazz harpist Park Stickney will be performing at the United Reformed Church, in Star Lane, Stamford on Wednesday (June 11) at 7.30pm (doors 7pm). The concert has been organised by acclaimed Stamford harpist, and Park’s friend, Eleanor Turner.

    A dementia charity has been boosted by a Lottery grant of more than £200,000. Dementia Support South Lincs (DSSL), which helps people with dementia and their carers in Bourne, Stamford and the Deepings, has been awarded £202,933 from the National Lottery Community Fund. Based at Wake House, in Bourne, the charity will use the grant to run therapeutic groups, including Tai Chi, Art for All, Singing for Fun and Let’s Get Gardening, as well as monthly support groups and coffee mornings.

    A village is to open up its gardens, big and small, this weekend for charity. Five very different gardens will open for the National Garden Scheme (NGS) in Manton, on the south shore of Rutland Water, on Sunday (June 8) from 1pm to 5pm. Manton Lodge boasts steeply sloping borders of perennials and roses, alongside wonderful views, while Shapinsay has mature trees, established borders and a stream linking numerous ponds.

    A cyclist is set to go outside of his comfort zone to help fund more school trips at a town primary. Johnny Topaz has pledged to tackle a 100-mile ride to raise money for school trips and extra-curricular activities at St Gilbert’s Primary School, in Stamford, where his eight-year-old daughter, Bella, is a pupil.
